Recently, Cheng Yangyang, 2017-grade postgraduate student of our School won the full-scholarship offer of Oxford University, and will be about to go to Oxford University to pursue the doctoral degree.

Cheng Yangyang, 2017-grade postgraduate student of the School of Mathematics, Shandong University, learnt after Professor Wang Guanghui, and was awarded the 2019 Shandong University Postgraduate Principal Scholarship, National Scholarship, and Pan Chengdong Scholarship. During the undergraduate period, he published 3 SCI papers, participated in international conferences for multiple times, and made a speech on random structures and algorithms at the top international RSA conference. Since the sophomore year, he has begun to make life plans. He actively visited many teachers with different majors and orientations, conducted detailed exchanges with the teachers, and finally determined his own orientation of scientific research.

Most students majoring in mathematics may treat it as a string of obscure symbols, and a heavy and boring professional book; while non-professional ones think that mathematics is frightening, just like fierce floods and savage beasts, and they try best to avoid mentioning it. Differently, Cheng Yangyang is adept in discovering the beauty in mathematics, and maintains an enduring love for mathematics. He will not, due to some difficulties or temptations, easily give up learning mathematics, nor become depressed to re-consider whether he is suitable for learning mathematics and engaging in scientific research. Since he has made his own choice, he will remain true to the original aspiration, and forge ahead as always despite mountainous difficulties and pressures ahead.

Faith in the heart, might under the foot. Cheng Yangyang has always been adhering to the school motto of "Noble in Spirit, Boundless in Knowledge", and engages in scientific research with perseverance. He said that, "I am very happy to do what I like and learn new knowledge every day. In the days ahead, I will continue to explore the mystery of scientific research."
