Presenter: Zhang Zhihua

Abstract:

Global climate change is widely regarded as an important problem faced by human society, whose impact is extensive with a tremendous cost. Due to such facts as temperature rising, glacier melting, sea ice area decreasing and sea level rising, the global warming is becoming increasingly severe undoubtedly. The main cause of climate change and global warming is the increase of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide emitted by human beings. If the global average temperature rises higher than the critical value by two degrees, it will bring catastrophic consequences to the global environment, especially the sharply rising sea level, which will destroy the homeland for about 150 million people living below 1 meter of the sea level. This report will introduce how to use mathematical methods to simulate the interaction mechanism between human activities and climate change, diagnose the characteristics of the abrupt changes in climate, and predict the trend, impact, response, etc. of climate change and global environmental change.
